Jer 52:1 Zedekiah was one and twenty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name was Hamutal the daughter of Jeremiah of Libnah.
This chapter is a Pop test, after reading 51 chapters of prophecy, we now must APPLY that which we have learned.
One thing we have learned is the Zedekiah did NOT follow the prophecy of Jeremiah, and here we are presented with his mother’s name and her father’s name, which happened to be Jeremiah too!
Zedekiah didn’t trust in the Father above, but rather his own fathers which provided a FALSE covering.
It is hidden in the name of his mother, Hamutal, here mentioned by name for the FIRST time.
Hamu’tal. (akin to the dew), or in BDB = “father-in-law is protection”
tal
From H2926; dew (as covering vegetation): – dew.
AHLB – I. Dew: [Hebrew and Aramaic] II. Ruin: A city that is covered over and made into a mound. [df: lt] [freq. 41] |kjv: dew, heap, strength| {str: 2919, 2920, 8510}
We see in this name, the prophecy that come over Zedekiah, being ruined and his city made a HEAP. People who try to “cover over” the truth written in Jeremiah, trust in another god, and will have the same fate as Zedekiah.
Jer 52:2 And he did that which was evil in the eyes of the LORD, according to all that Jehoiakim had done.
This confirms what God was saying in verse one, and shows us why the name Hamutal was mentioned.
Jer 52:3 For through the anger of the LORD it came to pass in Jerusalem and Judah, till He had cast them out from His presence, that Zedekiah rebelled against the king of Babylon.
The thing that came to pass in Jerusalem, was the great exile of people from OUT of the land. This is what the entire book of Jeremiah is about, the coming judgment and ANGER of the Lord, and the false messiah coming to “capture” the people, the 6th trump.
Jer 52:4 And it came to pass in the ninth year of his reign, in the tenth month, in the tenth day of the month, that Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon came, he and all his army, against Jerusalem, and pitched against it, and built forts against it round about.
Jer 52:5 So the city was besieged unto the eleventh year of king Zedekiah.
How many years was that? 3 1/2 years, but we have an even clearer picture drawn in the next few verses that accurately pinpoint the BEGINNING of the 2 1/2 mths, ending in the 7th month with the death of Gedaliah (II Kings 25:25) – symbolic of the death of the 2 witnesses.
Jer 52:6 And in the fourth month, in the ninth day of the month, the famine was sore in the city, so that there was no bread for the people of the land.
This aligns with the arrival of Satan as the false messiah, and the “sacrifice and the oblation shall cease” (from Dan 9:27) at his arrival.
Jer 52:7 Then the city was broken up, and all the men of war fled, and went forth out of the city by night by the way of the gate between the two walls, which was by the king’s garden; (now the Chaldeans were by the city round about:) and they went by the way of the plain.
Think of this in the sense of deception. When Satan arrives as the false messiah, even the biggest scholars will run because they don’t have the armor of the living God, which is the word of God. They won’t have ANY defences, no covering, no “dew” as in verse one.
Jer 52:8 But the army of the Chaldeans pursued after the king, and overtook Zedekiah in the plains of Jericho; and all his army was scattered from him.
That state of confusion is going to come, as God has stated in this book over and over, and if you try to fight him without any Biblical knowledge in place, then you have no choice but to give in and worship him instead of the REAL King of Kings.
Jer 52:9 Then they took the king, and carried him up unto the king of Babylon to Riblah in the land of Hamath; where he gave judgment upon him.
Hamath is mentioned in the 35th chapter, and he was the chief kenite (I Chron 2:55). Why mention the kenites? Because when satan arrives, his own children will become the judges as they help rule the people with him.
Jer 52:10 And the king of Babylon slew the sons of Zedekiah before his eyes: he slew also all the princes of Judah in Riblah.
This will be similar to spiritual death in a prophetic sense.
Jer 52:11 Then he put out the eyes of Zedekiah; and the king of Babylon bound him in chains, and carried him to Babylon, and put him in prison till the day of his death.
Zedekiah was of the TRUE KING LINE of JUDAH! He was supposed to be following God. It goes to show, in this Pop test, that bloodline, even Judah bloodline, doesn’t make you a GOOD FIG! He will have his eyes “put out” to show us today, that blindness will fall upon ALL the people no matter what their bloodline is.
Jer 52:12 Now in the fifth month, in the tenth day of the month, which was the nineteenth year of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, came Nebuzaradan, captain of the guard, which served the king of Babylon, into Jerusalem,
Nebuzaradan was the chief executioner for the King.
Jer 52:13 And burned the house of the LORD, and the king’s house; and all the houses of Jerusalem, and all the houses of the great men, burned he with fire:
This is the HEAP produced from trusting in the DEW that won’t protect you.
Jer 52:14 And all the army of the Chaldeans, that were with the captain of the guard, brake down all the walls of Jerusalem round about.
This is the fulfillment of the coming of Babylon, which was prophesied for 51 chapters. The Good figs have already been safely carried off.
Jer 52:15 Then Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard carried away captive certain of the poor of the people, and the residue of the people that remained in the city, and those that fell away, that fell to the king of Babylon, and the rest of the multitude.
The residue were all the people who REFUSED to obey God, and their chief bad fig being Zedekiah the King of Judah himself (see Jer 29:17)
Jer 52:16 But Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard left certain of the poor of the land for vinedressers and for husbandmen.
The only exception to those who were left, were Jeremiah himself and the daughters of the King of Judah who were to travel with Jeremiah into a new land and set up the throne of Judah in that land, which still exists to this day.
Jer 52:17 Also the pillars of brass that were in the house of the LORD, and the bases, and the brasen sea that was in the house of the LORD, the Chaldeans brake, and carried all the brass of them to Babylon.
They took everything that was too heavy to take during the second siege.
Jer 52:18 The caldrons also, and the shovels, and the snuffers, and the bowls, and the spoons, and all the vessels of brass wherewith they ministered, took they away.
This vile King of Babylon will use these “holy” vessels to make sacrifices unto himself, and cause all REAL sacrifices and vessels given to God alone to CEASE because everyone will think that satan is Christ.
Jer 52:19 And the basons, and the firepans, and the bowls, and the caldrons, and the candlesticks, and the spoons, and the cups; that which was of gold in gold, and that which was of silver in silver, took the captain of the guard away.
All the religious things were taken over by the false jesus.
Jer 52:20 The two pillars, one sea, and twelve brasen bulls that were under the bases, which king Solomon had made in the house of the LORD: the brass of all these vessels was without weight.
They will take over EVERYTHING RELIGIOUS.
Jer 52:21 And concerning the pillars, the height of one pillar was eighteen cubits; and a fillet of twelve cubits did compass it; and the thickness thereof was four fingers: it was hollow.
The pillars symbolize the STRENGTH of the religious system. It will be weakened over a single minute, when satan arrives. There is no strength in church buildings.
Jer 52:22 And a chapiter of brass was upon it; and the height of one chapiter was five cubits, with network and pomegranates upon the chapiters round about, all of brass. The second pillar also and the pomegranates were like unto these.
The network of churches, with all their worldwide good deeds (their fruit), displayed as holy to the entire world will all be given unto the false one, and it will become his church network.
Jer 52:23 And there were ninety and six pomegranates on a side; and all the pomegranates upon the network were an hundred round about.
If this is a FOUR sided building, then this FRUIT will be represented as 24 pomegranates on each side (like the 24 elders around the throne of God Rev 5:14). The four corners of the earth will each see this “holiness” put on display for every nation of the world. FOUR more pomegranates makes 100, or the FOUR faces described in Ezekiel.
Jer 52:24 And the captain of the guard took Seraiah the chief priest, and Zephaniah the second priest, and the three keepers of the door:
Seraiah means God has prevailed, and Zephaniah means hidden.
Jer 52:25 He took also out of the city an eunuch, which had the charge of the men of war; and seven men of them that were near the king’s person, which were found in the city; and the principal scribe of the host, who mustered the people of the land; and threescore men of the people of the land, that were found in the midst of the city.
They rounded all the people up who claimed to be “priests”.
Jer 52:26 So Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard took them, and brought them to the king of Babylon to Riblah.
They were taken to Riblah, the land where the Kenites ruled (Hemath), thus fulfilling Amos 6:14.
Jer 52:27 And the king of Babylon smote them, and put them to death in Riblah in the land of Hamath. Thus Judah was carried away captive out of his own land.
They have to surrender to the King of Babylon, because God has pronounced for 51 chapters that satan would come at the 6th trump.
Jer 52:28 This is the people whom Nebuchadrezzar carried away captive: in the seventh year three thousand Jews and three and twenty:
Two prophets document this seven years (Ezekiel & Joel), and now Jeremiah who would help give Daniel the FOUNDATION upon which his prophecies would be laid. That is why the pattern is repeated, that satan (the king of Babylon) comes at the END of 7 years, for 2 1/2 mths which is explained in great detail in II Kings 25.
Jer 52:29 In the eighteenth year of Nebuchadrezzar he carried away captive from Jerusalem eight hundred thirty and two persons:
Jer 52:30 In the three and twentieth year of Nebuchadrezzar Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard carried away captive of the Jews seven hundred forty and five persons: all the persons were four thousand and six hundred.
4,600 was all that was left, they were disobeying GOD because He had instructed them to go into captivity, but they didn’t obey, HENCE ALL THESE ARE BAD FIGS (with the exception of Jeremiah and the daughters who were freed).
Jer 52:31 And it came to pass in the seven and thirtieth year of the captivity of Jehoiachin king of Judah, in the twelfth month, in the five and twentieth day of the month, that Evilmerodach king of Babylon in the first year of his reign lifted up the head of Jehoiachin king of Judah, and brought him forth out of prison,
Jehoiachin was FREED, but Jehoiachin was disobedient and God changed his name to Jeconiah and then CONIAH (removing God’s name completely), but the King of Babylon frees this one man.
Jer 52:32 And spake kindly unto him, and set his throne above the throne of the kings that were with him in Babylon,
Satan will also do this, when he is here. He will reward those that are disobedient to the true God.
Jer 52:33 And changed his prison garments: and he did continually eat bread before him all the days of his life.
This guy couldn’t protect anything, but he is given royal garments, authority, and other things he never deserved.
Jer 52:34 And for his diet, there was a continual diet given him of the king of Babylon, every day a portion until the day of his death, all the days of his life.
This is a diet of lies from the king of Babylon himself. We can compare this to Ezekiel who was taken captive at the same time as Jeconiah, but God lifted up Ezekiel and gave him one of the most important keys of prophecy ever written.
Ezekiel would secure for us the time, the faces of the cherubim, and teach us about the coming king of Babylon, and that final time of peace with the TRUE Christ for 1000 years.
It goes back to verse one, who’s DEW covers you? Ezekiel had the Dew of the TRUE Father not a fake. Jeconiah would only have the rewards of this life, and then he will die, ending his life and any real contribution to humanity.
